DOG PERSON CLUB: Zabby & George

We've had the pleasure of following Zabby Allen on Instagram for YONKS, we love seeing what she creates day to day through her amazingly colourful business. Another reason why we were drawn to this lovely lady, was her also just as lovely rescue dog, George! We got in touch with Zabby and asked her to get involved with our DOG PERSON CLUB!

Could you give us a brief description of the relationship you had with George?

"George was Battersea Brands Hatch's longest resident when my boyfriend Kurtis and his Mum adopted him. He'd been at the rescue centre for over a year and didn't like the kennels much, so he spent most of his time with the people that worked in the office. He was about 7 or 8 at the time but had the energy of a puppy and I always loved visiting him at Kurtis' house. Eventually I moved in with Kurtis, and a couple of years later we moved out, so George lived between our house and K's Mum's. Our friends loved him so much, if they came round to visit and George wasn't here that day you could see how disappointed they were!"

How did you come to find each other?

"When I started working from home, George's company began to mean so much more to me - he was always there to keep me company and was my excuse to get outside for some exercise. Sadly, as George grew older his health deteriorated and his back legs finally started to give way. Before we had to make the heartbreaking decision to have him put to sleep I designed some enamel pins of his greying face that said 'Underdog' (on his trademark red bandana), to represent rescue dogs, older dogs, mongrels, mutts and more. The pins have been bought by people as far away as Australia, America, Canada and Indonesia and have raised Β£263 for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. I still miss George every day, but I'm so glad that I got to spend so much time with him and that he touched the hearts of so many people worldwide."

Please give us an interesting fact about you and your furry friend!

"George had a sixth sense and could always tell when it was going to rain. He HATED storms and would hide under my desk panting as soon as it started to rain. Other things he was scared of include flies, fireworks, shouting, balloons and bubbles! He also always knew if you were hungover or ill and would hug you through the pain! What a guy."

Unfortunately, George is no longer with us, but you can still remember this beautiful boy and help others like him by purchasing one of Zabby's Enamel Pins and help raise more money for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home!

Big thank you to Zabby & the gorgeous George! See more stories of lovely people and their furry friends on our DOG PERSON CLUB page or on our DOG PERSON CLUB instagram!
